Photo exhibition: Italienbilder

Exhibition Images of Italy

The exhibition includes 26 photographs in different formats. The photo exhibition is complemented by brochures, which are available to explain the exhibition.

The photo exhibition Italienbilder shows works by Cologne-based photographers Rosanna D'Ortona, Francesca Magistro and Luisa Zanzani on the theme of their common Italian origins. Starting from their own relationships to Italy and their respective migration stories between Germany and Italy, the photographers give an insight into those images of Italy that they find in the collective memories of their families and in their own views.

Perspectives of the artists

Magistro uses the family archive to explore the way in which she photographs her own family today. Zanzani's work is dedicated to her region of origin, Emilia-Romagna, which she left over 10 years ago and is now rediscovering. D'Ortona belongs to the first generation of "guest worker children" and only knows the country of her parents in an idealized way through vacations and stories.

Photo exhibition: Arriving - images of a pioneering generation

The photo exhibition "Ankommen - Bilder einer Pioniergeneration" provides a unique insight into the lives of migrants during the 1960s to 80s. The exhibition presents both private and professional photographs that impressively document the multifaceted lives of migrant workers. The immigrants came from Turkey, Italy, Spain and Greece, for example, and worked in the construction industry, the iron and metal industry and the automotive industry.
The photographs reflect the diversity of the people and their individual experiences. From scenes in factories documenting everyday working life to idyllic picnics in the park, the exhibition conveys a vivid impression of the time. These authentic images not only tell stories, but also evoke memories of an era in which migrants made a significant contribution to society through their work and way of life. Immerse yourself in this fascinating journey through time and discover the impressive variety of stories behind the photographs of this pioneering generation.
